MGP-Legacy-Server-Assistant

Before You Start

Before setting up the bot, make sure you have the following things ready:

A running The Isle: Legacy Gameserver

The bot connects to your Gameserver's file system to manage player data, dinos, and the Game.ini configuration. Without a running server, the bot has nothing to connect to.

FTP or SFTP login credentials for your Gameserver

You need: Host (IP address or domain), Port, Username, and Password. Your hosting provider gives you these — check your server panel or contact their support.

A Discord server where you have Administrator permissions

You need the Administrator or Manage Server permission to configure the bot.

Step 1 — Invite the Bot

Click the link below to invite the bot to your Discord server:

🚀 Invite MGP Legacy-Server-Assistant

During the invite process, Discord will ask you to select a server. Pick the server where you want to use the bot and confirm.

Step 2 — Configure Discord Permissions

After the bot has joined your server, you should configure who can use which commands and in which channels. This is done through Discord itself — not the bot.

Set up command permissions in Discord

  1. Open your Discord server and go to Server Settings | Integrations.

  2. Find and click on MGP Legacy-Server-Assistant in the list of integrations.

  3. You will see a list of all slash commands. For each command, you can configure:

    • Who can use the command (specific users or roles)

    • Where the command can be used (specific channels)

  4. At a minimum, make sure that admin commands like /server, /config, /player, and /setup are restricted to your admin roles or trusted staff.

Step 3 — Connect Your Gameserver

This is the most important step: you tell the bot how to reach your Gameserver's files.

Add FTP/SFTP credentials

  1. Open any text channel in your Discord server where the bot can see messages.

  2. Type the following command:

    /server add server:survival protocol:FTP host:123.45.67.89 port:21 user:myuser pass:mypassword

Replace the values with your actual credentials:

    server

A short name you choose for this server (e.g. survival, sandbox, server1). This is how you'll refer to this server in all other commands. Keep it simple!

    protocol

Choose FTP or SFTP depending on what your hosting provider supports.

    host

The IP address or domain name of your Gameserver (e.g. 123.45.67.89 or myserver.gamehost.com). Do NOT include ftp:// or sftp:// — just the address!

    port

The port number. Common defaults: 21 for FTP, 22 for SFTP. Check with your hosting provider.

    user

    Your FTP/SFTP username.

    pass

    Your FTP/SFTP password.

  3. The bot will attempt to connect to your server immediately. If the connection succeeds, you will see a green confirmation message showing the files in the root directory.

Connection failed?

If the bot shows an error after /server add, check the following:

Problem

What to do

Could not reach server

Double-check the host and port. Make sure your server is running.

Connection test failed

The host/port are reachable, but the username or password is wrong.

Timeout

Your server's firewall might be blocking the connection. Ask your hosting provider to allow FTP/SFTP access.

ftp:// or sftp:// in host

Remove the protocol prefix. Enter just the IP or domain.

Verify stored credentials

To see all stored FTP/SFTP credentials for your Discord server:

/server show

This displays the host, port, username, and protocol for each saved server. Passwords are never shown.

Remove a server

If you need to remove a saved server:

/server remove

A dropdown menu will appear letting you select which server entry to delete.

Most bot commands need to know which Gameserver to talk to. Instead of typing the server name every time, you can assign a Discord channel to a specific server. Every command run in that channel will automatically use the assigned server.

Assign a channel to a server

  1. Type the following command:

    /setup set-server-channel channel:#survival-management server:survival

Replace #survival-management with the Discord channel you want to assign, and survival with the server name you used in Step 3.

  2. You will see a confirmation that the channel is now assigned.

  3. (Optional) Repeat for other servers — e.g. assign #sandbox-management to your sandbox server.

Remove a channel assignment

/setup remove-server-channel channel:#survival-management

Receive Bot Changelogs

If you want to stay up to date with the latest bot updates, you can configure a System Messages Channel in your Discord server. The bot will automatically post its changelog there whenever a new version is released.

This is a built-in Discord setting — no bot command needed:

Set up the System Messages Channel

  1. Open your Discord server and go to Server Settings | Overview.

  2. Scroll down to the System Messages Channel section.

  3. Select the channel where you want to receive bot changelogs from the dropdown menu.

Step 5 — Set Up Player Verification

Before players can use features like dino storage or the store, they need to link their Discord account to their SteamID. This is how the bot knows which player file on the Gameserver belongs to which Discord user.

For Players

Each player verifies themselves by running:

/verify myself steamid:76561198012345678

The SteamID must be exactly 17 digits long. Players can find their SteamID at steamid.io or in their Steam profile URL.

For Admins

Admins can check if a player is verified:

/verify check user:@SomePlayer

Step 6 — Set Up Bot Permissions

Beyond Discord's built-in integration permissions (Step 2), the bot has its own fine-grained permission system. This lets you control access per subcommand — for example, allowing everyone to use /storage store but restricting /config set to admins only.

Permission Levels

There are three permission levels:

all

Every member of the Discord server can use the command. This is the default for user-facing commands like /economy, /storage, /verify, and /gambling.

admins

Only members with Administrator, Server Owner, or Manage Server permissions can use the command. This is the default for sensitive commands like /server, /config, /player, and /setup.

roles

Only members with one of the specified roles can use the command. Admins are always allowed regardless.

Set Permissions

Configure command permissions

  1. To restrict a specific subcommand to admins only:

    /setup permission-set command:config sub:set level:admins
  2. To allow everyone to use a specific subcommand:

    /setup permission-set command:economy sub:balance level:all
  3. To restrict a subcommand to specific roles:

    /setup permission-set command:storage sub:store level:roles role1:@Moderator role2:@Trusted

You can specify up to 5 roles. Admins always have access regardless.

  4. To restrict ALL subcommands of a command at once, use * as the sub:

    /setup permission-set command:config sub:* level:admins

View Current Permissions

To see all configured permissions:

/setup permission-show

To filter by a specific command:

/setup permission-show command:config

Step 7 — Manage Gameserver Configuration

With the bot connected, you can view and edit your Gameserver's Game.ini directly from Discord.

View the Game.ini

/config show

This displays the entire Game.ini content. If the channel is assigned to a server (Step 4), it uses that server automatically.

Change a Setting

/config set key:ServerName value:My Awesome Server

This finds the key ServerName in the Game.ini and updates its value. The bot scans all sections automatically.

Manage Server Admins

To add a player as a server admin (in the Game.ini):

/config add-admin steamid:76561198012345678

To remove a server admin:

/config remove-admin

A dropdown menu will show all current server admins so you can select which one to remove.

Step 8 — Set Up the Economy System (Optional)

The bot includes a full in-Discord currency system. Players can earn, spend, trade, and gamble currency. This step is optional — the bot works fine without it.

Enable the Currency

Enable and configure the currency

  1. Run the currency configuration command:

    /setup currency-config name:Coins symbol:💰 enabled:true default_amount:100
    name

The name of your currency (e.g. Coins, DinoTokens, Gold).

    symbol

An emoji or character used as the currency symbol (e.g. 💰, 🪙, $).

    enabled

Set to true to activate the economy system.

    default_amount

How many coins each new user starts with (e.g. 100). Set to 0 if players should start with nothing.

  2. (Optional) Set additional options:

    /setup currency-config max_amount:1000000 allow_negative:false
    • max_amount: Maximum balance a player can have (0 = unlimited).

    • allow_negative: Whether players can go into debt (true/false).

Configure Earning Methods

Players earn currency through three activities: Work (safe), Cheat (risky), and Crime (very risky). Each has its own reward range, cooldown, and success chance.

/setup economy-work min_amount:50 max_amount:150

Work always succeeds. Players get a random amount between min and max.

To set the cooldown:

/setup currency-config work_cooldown:1

(This sets the cooldown to 1 hour. Use 0.5 for 30 minutes.)

/setup economy-cheat min_amount:100 max_amount:400 success_chance:60

Cheat has a 60% chance to succeed. If it fails, the player gets nothing.

To set the cooldown:

/setup currency-config cheat_cooldown:2
/setup economy-crime win_min:200 win_max:800 lose_min:50 lose_max:300 success_chance:40

Crime has a 40% chance to succeed. If it fails, the player loses currency!

To set the cooldown:

/setup currency-config crime_cooldown:4

Configure Gambling

The bot includes four casino games: Coinflip, Blackjack, Roulette, and Dice.

To view the current gambling settings:

/setup gambling-config

To customize:

/setup gambling-config coinflip_multiplier:2 max_bet:5000 cooldown_minutes:5
coinflip_multiplier

Payout multiplier for winning a coinflip (default: 2 = double your bet).

max_bet

Maximum amount a player can bet per game (0 = unlimited).

cooldown_minutes

Waiting time between gambling games (0 = no cooldown).

View Economy Configuration

To see a full summary of all economy settings at a glance:

/setup economy-info

Step 9 — Player Management

As an admin, you have several tools to manage players on your Gameserver.

View a Player's Data

/player show user:@SomePlayer

This downloads and displays the player's JSON file from the Gameserver.

Change a Player's Growth Stage

/player direct-grow player:@SomePlayer

A dropdown menu will show all available growth stages for the player's current dinosaur (Hatchling, Juvenile, Sub-Adult, Adult).

Set a Player's Dinosaur

/player set-dino user:@SomePlayer source:Survival diet:Carnivore

This opens a dropdown menu with all available dinosaurs matching the selected source and diet. Pick a dino, then pick a growth stage.

Manage Player Stats

/player statmenu player:@SomePlayer

This shows the player's current Hunger, Thirst, Stamina, and Health — with buttons to set each stat to the maximum value (999).

Manage Player Balances

/player set-balance user:@SomePlayer amount:5000 /player add-balance user:@SomePlayer amount:1000 /player remove-balance user:@SomePlayer amount:500

To add or remove currency from all guild members at once:

/player add-balance-all amount:500 /player remove-balance-all amount:100

Step 10 — Dino Storage & Store

Self-Service Dino Storage

Players can park and restore their dinosaurs without admin help:

Command

Description

/storage store

Parks your current dino and saves it.

/storage restore slot:1

Restores a parked dino (auto-swaps).

/storage check

Shows your stored dinosaurs.

/storage destore slot:1

Permanently deletes a stored slot.

Admin Storage

Admins can manage storage for any player:

/admin storage-store user:@SomePlayer /admin storage-restore user:@SomePlayer slot:1 /admin storage-check user:@SomePlayer /admin storage-destore user:@SomePlayer slot:1

Dino Store (Currency)

If the economy system is enabled, players can buy dinosaurs with currency:

Command

Description

/store menu

Browse the store catalog and prices.

/store buy-dino

Purchase a dino (starts as Juvenile).

/store buy-egg

Purchase an egg (starts as Hatchling).

/store buy-growth

Upgrade your dino to the next stage.

Troubleshooting

"No server configured for this channel"

You ran a command in a channel that is not assigned to any Gameserver, and you didn't pass the server option manually.

Fix: Either assign the channel with /setup set-server-channel, or add the server option to your command (e.g. /config show server:survival).

"You are not verified"

The player hasn't linked their Discord account to their SteamID yet.

Fix: The player needs to run /verify myself steamid:76561198012345678 with their actual 17-digit SteamID.

"No FTP/SFTP credentials configured yet"

No server has been added to the bot for this Discord server.

Fix: An admin needs to run /server add with valid FTP/SFTP credentials (see Step 3).

"Connection test failed"

The bot could reach the server (host and port are correct), but login failed.

Fix: Double-check the FTP/SFTP username and password. Make sure there are no extra spaces.

"Could not reach server"

The bot cannot establish a connection to the host at all.

Fix: Verify the host IP/domain and port are correct. Check that your server is running and that the firewall allows FTP/SFTP connections.

"Currency is not enabled in this server"

The economy system has not been activated for this Discord server.

Fix: An admin needs to run /setup currency-config enabled:true (see Step 8).

Commands don't show up in Discord

Slash commands can take up to 1 hour to register globally after the bot first joins. If commands still don't show up after an hour:

  1. Make sure the bot has the correct permissions in Discord (see Step 2).

  2. Try restarting your Discord client (Ctrl+R on desktop).

  3. Check that the bot is online (green status dot).

Getting Help

If you're stuck, use the /help command to see a list of all available commands with descriptions.

The /help command automatically adjusts to your permission level — admins see all commands, regular members see only the commands they have access to.
